PLACE SPACE, The 2011 exhibition of the Backwater Artists Group highlights the often-neglected dynamics between embodied, subjective Place and abstract, objective Space. This group show is rooted in the creative community that is Backwater Artists Group. However, each individual artist also surpasses this and presents work that is meaningful beyond the specific context. Each work establishes a Place and at the same time resists any simple reduction to the domestic, personal or particular. Curated by Julia Jansen and Tony O’Connor. Runs from 9th to the 26th November. Opening Wednesday 9th November at 7pm.

ARTWORK EMBASSY, Backwater Artists are taking part in Art Work Embassy at The Elysian, which is part of Art Trail 11. The opening reception is on this Friday 18 November, from 6pm - 9pm. This is a unique opportunity to see artists' practice from all over Cork City coming together under one roof.
The Elysian, Eglinton Street

Cork is a hive of cultural activity all-year round, and visual artists are a significant and vital presence. This large-scale exhibition event Art Work Embassy in the cavernous space of The Elysian brings together artists and artworks from a wide range of artists, groups and organisations in the City and surrounding areas. Art Work Embassy is designed as the hub of the festival, a meeting point, a space for artist talks, interactive and participative projects, the starting point for studio visits, and the site of a developing and flexible programme of activities. Details and timetables will be available in the space, on the ArtTrail website www.arttrail.ie , and from the artists and organisations participating.
Artists and studios have each decided how to represent their ongoing practices, and many will be on hand to talk about their works during the festival. Where works are for sale, any enquiries and arrangements will be dealt with directly by the artist, and no commission is taken by the festival.
