Statement
Mags Geaney, born Cork. Studied Fine Art Painting at Limerick
College of Art & Design. Moved to Belfast in 1992 and was
a founder member and secretary of Paragaon Studios, Belfast. Awarded
a Visual Arts Bursary from the Arts Council of Northern Irealnd
in 1994. Moved to New York and had a studio in Queens in 1996.
Returned to Cork in 1997 and became a member of Backwater Artists
Group. Awarded Art Flight from The Arts Council of Ireland in
1998. Residency at the International Plein air, Alytus, Lithuania
in 1990. Solo exhibition 'Tryst' at Tig Fili Gallery, Cork and
Siamsa Tire Gallery, Tralee in 2000. A film 'Tyrst' by Thomas
Glowatski with script and voice over by Vera Ryan. 2001/2004 selected
for various group shows at Triskel Arts Centre, Fenton Gallery,
U.C.C. and Contemporary Irsish artists, Sala Consiliare, Italy.
2004 Solo exhibitions of new work, 'Vasalisa's Journey' in the
light boxes at Tom Barrys and group exhibitions, Contemporary
Art in the Cathedral and Death & Desire. 2005 Summer Show,
Fenton Gallery, Cork. 2005 -2008 Director of Backwater Artists
Group.
