Statement
Fiona Dowling makes art about love. Through paintings, events
and documentaries, she compares and contrasts real experiences
of love and relationships with the ones portrayed in the media,
in her whimsical and playful manner.
Recent works include a film-karaoke event where she invites members
of the public to re-enact famous romantic dialogues from films,
as well as a documentary project "Happily ever after"
where she interviews happy older couples about their experience
together. In the privacy of her studio she takes her own story
and brings it to a mythical level in paintings and mosaics.
Influenced by the traditions of clowning, comedy and storytelling,
her work is driven by a loving curiosity for her fellow human-beings,
a quest for authentic communication, an excitement about reaching
out to the public and a commitment to cultivating a sense of fun,
warmth and intimacy.
Her art wishes to inspire people towards happiness and the expression
of emotions.
