Statement
Eileen is predominantly a figurative artist who works mainly in pastel and oil. The paintings she creates are very direct, honest and strong portraits of people who sit for her in her studio.‘I really enjoy working from life. I am attracted to the immediacy and freshness of recreating in my own language what is in front of me.
I work with models who provide me with the chance to express my artistic language through them.’For many years Eileen has been a strong believer in the practice of drawing from the nude model. Most recently she has been working with 5 different models from various walks of life including a dancer, a pregnant woman, a refugee and a mother. In her portraits she depicts the women simply seated in a chair or standing, looking at the viewer. Some drawings are full length portraits, a new departure for her.‘Drawing from life is for me a way of life and the backbone of my work. It keeps my work alive’
